Led by Rob Oldfield, join our beginners guide to gilding and discover the traditional techniques of laying gold leaf, a perfect skill to use when upcycling your furniture at home. This is an excellent opportunity to explore and develop practical skills and knowledge to incorporate gold lead into your artistic repertoire.

The course will start with an introduction to the House and a chance to explore some of the Chippendale furniture around the State Floor. Refreshments and a sandwich lunch will be provided on the day. Please notify us upon booking of any dietary requirements you may have.

About Rob Oldfield

Rob Oldfield is an artist, educator, and curator, with nearly forty years of sign making experience. Currently senior Fine Art Technician at York St John University, he also works as Technician and Art Handler at various museums and galleries including the National Railway Museum and York Art Gallery. His interest in period design and classical methods led him to work in a number of museums and historic interiors. The importance of gilding as part of this work has created a desire to pass on his knowledge so that it does not become yet another ‘forgotten art’ in an increasingly digital world.

The House and grounds are open between 23rd March and 4th November, 2018.
